The family of a young boy, who suffered serious injuries after the cable of a flying fox at Quinney’s Bush Camp in Motupiko snapped, is thanking all those who “leapt to help”.
It has been over two months on from when Orson Moll was struck in the chest and stomach by a broken cable from a flying fox at the campground on January 20.
The incident caused multiple internal injuries, including a severed pancreas and a resultant large cyst, and saw Orson flown to Nelson Hospital and then onto Christchurch Hospital by Flying Doctors, where he spent 17 days in their care.
“Thankfully the cyst has virtually resolved”, the campground said in a statement to their Facebook page, adding that “Orson is happily back playing sport and able to consume all food types”.
The Moll family said in a statement published on the campground’s Facebook page that they were grateful to those who leapt to help, “gently guiding and supporting through the emergency”.
They gave thanks to all those who “cared more for Orson’s well-being rather than bemoaning the (temporary) loss of the flying fox amusement”.
They added that they wouldn’t wish for any one else to through such trauma.
